how does rice weight?

Grades in Rice's classes are weighted as follows:

homework
30%
quizzes
20%
tests
30%
notebook
10%
participation
10%

So, if you've used PowerSchool to calculate your category scores to be

homework
82%
quizzes
78%
tests
75%
notebook
91%
participation
100%

... then your grade calculation goes like this:

calculation total
homework
0.30 * (82)
=
24.6
quizzes
0.20 * (78)
=
15.6
tests
0.30 * (75)
=
22.5
notebook
0.10 * (91)
=
9.1
participation
0.10 * (100)
=
10.0
overall
81.8

If you're doing some work on analyzing your grade, you might also want to use this spreadsheet; as you follow the instructions on the sheet, your grade will be calculated automatically. This sheet is especially useful if you want to know how a score on an upcoming assignment or test will impact your overall grade.

That's it! Unless I've told you differently, remember to consider all quizzes and tests as scores out of 100, no matter how many questions were on the actual test. Also remember that any points you have from Infinity make your score even higher. Finally, please remember that grades you calculate are unofficial; if you come up with something that doesn't match PowerSchool, let Rice know right away.
